United States Attorney Michael J. Moore announced today(October 28) that Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) Harry J. Fox, Jr. will lead the efforts of his office in connection with the Justice Department’s nationwide Election Day Program for the upcoming November 2, 2010 general elections. AUSA Fox has been appointed to serve as the District Election Officer for the Middle District of Georgia, and in that capacity is responsible for overseeing the District’s handling of complaints of election fraud and voting rights abuses in consultation with Justice Department Headquarters in Washington.
United States Attorney Moore said, “Every citizen must be able to vote without interference or discrimination and to have that vote counted without it being stolen because of fraud. The Department of Justice will act promptly and aggressively to protect the integrity of the election process.”
Eight years ago, former Attorney General Ashcroft established a Department-wide Ballot Access and Voting Integrity Initiative. The goals of this ongoing initiative are to increase the Department’s ability to deter election fraud and discrimination at the polls, and to prosecute these offenses whenever and wherever they occur. The Department’s long-standing Election Day Program furthers these goals, and also seeks to ensure public confidence in the integrity of the election process by providing local points of contact within the Department for the public to report possible election fraud and voting rights violations while the polls are open on election day.
The franchise is the cornerstone of American democracy. We all must ensure that those who are entitled to the franchise exercise it if they choose, and that those who seek to corrupt it are brought to justice. In order to respond to complaints of election fraud or voting rights abuses on November 2, 2010, and to ensure that such complaints are directed to the appropriate authorities, United States Attorney Moore stated, “Assistant United States Attorney/District Election Officer Fox will be on duty in this district while the polls are open. He can be reached by the public at the following telephone number: 478-752-3511.”
In addition, the Federal Bureau of Investigation will have special agents available in each field office and resident agency throughout the country to receive allegations of election fraud and other election abuses on election day. The FBI can be reached by the public at 478-745-1271.
Complaints about ballot access problems or discrimination can be made directly to the Civil Rights Division’s Voting Section in Washington at 1-800-253-3931 or 202-307-2767.
United States Attorney Moore said, “The effectiveness of our Election Day Program depends in large part on the watchfulness and cooperation of the American electorate. It is imperative that those who have specific information about discrimination or election fraud make that information available immediately to my Office, the FBI, or the Civil Rights Division.”

Libertarian U.S. Senate Candidate and Airline Pilot Makes Statement on Ninth Anniversary of 9/11
Chuck Donovan, candidate for U.S. Senator from the state of Georgia, issued the following statement on the anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001:
"Like most Americans, I took the attacks of 9/11 very hard. As a professional pilot, I took them personally. We pilots had been trained with a plan to deal with hijackers; a plan we were told included team members outside of our cockpits. September 11, 2001 showed us we were disarmed and alone.
"Nine years later, we Americans are more and more restricted from using the tools of self-defense. Far too often and in far too many ways, we find ourselves helplessly at the mercy of a government we cannot rely on.
"The government's reaction to 9/11 was to energetically use its' two favorite tactics; expand power at the expense of our liberty, and to spend lots more money. Neither the poorly named "Patriot Act" nor the new Department of Homeland Security held anyone in government responsible for their failures that day. They also failed to effectively deal with the clearly exposed lack of inter-agency coordination.
"Today all we have to show for the huge investment is a bigger, more bloated government that finds it impossible to protect us from someone like Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, better known as the "underwear bomber." All the layers of bureaucracy were unable to take clear information on a known threat and act upon it. Our government makes a show of security, forcing experienced flight crew wearing layers of identification, to take off their shoes and belts, open their suitcases, or to wait at the border on return from international flights, yet someone like Abdulmutallab easily slips through the system.
"Our Federal government can only be relied upon to posture as a kind of Robocop. In reality, it is more like the Keystone Cops.
"The one small success on that terrible day 9 years ago was when free people on board United Airlines Flight 93 voluntarily joined together and resisted a deadly threat. Years later, it was free people once again, who stopped Abdulmutallab without the help of government.
"Today the threat of an overreaching, overspending government, using its authority to arrogantly step into every aspect of our lives, has finally become clear to many Americans. Benjamin Franklin warned us, 'Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.' Yet too many Americans remain unconvinced. If we fail to heed Franklin's warning, we will soon find ourselves without liberty or security."
Chuck Donovan is an international airline Captain who has over 30 years of experience as a professional and military pilot. Donovan's career in this no-nonsense profession, as well as his staunch support for small, fiscally responsible government, make him the best candidate for Georgia's new Senator.

FreedomWorks PAC Gains Key Victories in “Super Tuesday” Elections
(BUSINESS WIRE)--The hard work and dedication of FreedomWorks PAC activists were rewarded at the close of a nationwide series of primary, run-off, and special elections held yesterday, June 8th. Two key conservative victories in Nevada and Georgia will be sure to advance FreedomWorks PAC’s ambitious “Take America Back in 2010” campaign agenda.

In the Nevada Republican Senate primary, FreedomWorks PAC joined the likes of other national conservative groups including Club for Growth, Tea Party Express, and Jim DeMint’s Senate Conservatives Fund, to propel small-government conservative Sharron Angle to a landslide victory with 40.1 percent of the 3-way vote.
Angle earned a “Champion of Freedom” endorsement from FreedomWorks PAC for her strong commitment to limited government, and will take on one –if not the biggest- target for the conservative movement this fall: Democrat Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.
Meanwhile, FreedomWorks PAC was also heavily engaged in yesterday’s special election to fill Georgia’s 9th Congressional District seat, supporting State Representative and longtime FreedomWorks ally Tom Graves. When all was said and done, Graves cruised to victory thanks to his campaign’s strict, limited government, fiscally conservative message and the hard work of FreedomWorks Georgia activists who engaged in “Get Out The Vote” (GOTV) phone calls and door-to-door literature drops on his behalf.
Graves won an impressive 12 out of 15 counties in the northern Georgia District, with 56 percent of the overall vote.
“It is so exciting to see a new generation of conservative leaders emerge in the ongoing fight for small government, lower taxes and more individual freedom,” commented Dick Armey, Chairman of FreedomWorks PAC. “Tom Graves and Sharron Angle have the principles and the promise necessary to defeat the culture of corruption in Washington and to take back the conservative majority in 2010.”

In Senate primary races in Kentucky and Pennsylvania, FreedomWorks PAC endorsed “Champions of Freedom” Rand Paul and Pat Toomey, who both won outright and easily. In Utah, PAC efforts played a significant role in ousting the long time big-government apologist Senator Bob Bennett, and advancing PAC endorsed candidate Mike Lee to a run-off election on June 22.

Deal vows to eliminate state 'marriage penalty' tax
Republican candidate for governor Nathan Deal announced today that he would eliminate the "marriage penalty" in the state's income tax system in order to stress the state's commitment to helping Georgia families.
"Marriage is the cornerstone of our families, and I want to commit my administration as governor to creating jobs and ensuring a better future for Georgia's families," Deal said. "Strong families benefit our communities, and our state policies should always seek to promote marriage rather than see it as a chance to take a few more dollars for the treasury."
Under Georgia tax law, a single filer claims a $2,300 standard deduction, but a married couple filing jointly can claim only a $3,000 standard deduction. Under Deal's plan, a married couple would be able to claim the same deduction per person as two single taxpayers: $4,600. To illustrate the point, if a married couple earns $50,000 total, their tax liability would equal $2,236. If two single filers each earned $25,000, equaling the same $50,000 in total, their tax liability would equal $2,020. The difference in tax liability results in a $216 "marriage penalty."
"As governor, I want to make sure business leaders know that Georgia is a great place to locate - that's a big part of how we bring high-paying jobs here," Deal said. "But it's just as important for our state to be a great place for families, with a low cost of living, high quality of life, low taxes, efficient transportation and great schools. Targeting the state marriage tax penalty for elimination sends the message that we're a state that prioritizes family values. We send the wrong message by penalizing Georgians for being married, and we can right that wrong."
The repeal of the Georgia marriage penalty is the second plank of the Deal tax reform plan. Two weeks ago, Deal released his plan to attract jobs by reducing the corporate tax to 4 percent from 6 percent. Next, the Deal for Governor campaign will release its broader economic reform plan.
Nathan Deal has championed tax relief for Americans throughout his career in public service and voted against every tax increase and for every tax cut that came to a vote in Congress.
