Attorney General Candidate Preston Smith Throws Down the Gauntlet

Challenge to Obamacare Will Be Issued On Day One

Preston Smith is no stranger to fighting for conservative principles. As a four-term state senator, Smith stood firmly for his principles of limited government and lower taxes and voted against the proposed tax increases even though it cost him his chairmanship of the powerful judiciary committee.

Now Smith is preparing to fight for Georgians’ rights against an expanding federal government that seeks to encroach into the lives of the citizens of Georgia. Smith’s first action as Georgia’s next attorney general will be to file measures to challenge and repeal Obamacare.

“What the federal government did with the healthcare bill was an incredible expansion of their powers and they are not authorized in the U. S. Constitution to force this upon us,” Sen. Smith said. “We have got to turn back the federal government now before it is too late for Georgians.

“Article 1, Section 9 specifically prohibits the issuance of a direct tax by Congress and it’s the first time in the history of our country where a tax has not been imposed on something you earn, something you own, or something you consume,” he said. “This is a tax based on the fact that you exist – and if we don’t turn Congress back now, if we don’t fight right now to repeal this bill and send it back to Congress where they no longer have the votes to pass it, then Congress will never again respect any boundaries, whatsoever.”

Smith agrees that healthcare reform is necessary – too many of our citizens are unable to afford adequate health insurance due to sky-rocketing healthcare costs. He added, however, that as a conservative, free market solutions are not receiving the proper attention to solve America’s healthcare problem.

“Barack Obama picked this fight with us and I want to finish it on behalf of the people of Georgia,” Sen. Smith concluded.

Preston Smith, who declared his candidacy just a little over two months ago, has gained undeniable momentum, raising more money in the last fundraising cycle than his two opponents combined, and winning recent straw polls by wide margins. He is also endorsed by Georgia Right to Life, the National Rifle Association, GeorgiaCarry.org, and the Republican Liberty Caucus.
